Light castles transforming into reality

el3mentsofwellness.com

Have you ever thought about what can put you ahead of someone else?  Why are some people so successful and others not?

I am in a stage of my life where I hardly touch the ground.  I work from 8:00 to 16:00, then I drive to class 4 nights of the week and on weekends I need to do assignments and study.  I am actually a very positive person who enjoys every moment of my busy life, but recently all the work is starting to get the better of me.  I really want to get my Btech PR degree this year and find a proper PR job.  At the moment I do not work under a qualified PR practitioner and even though I apply what I have learned, it is very hard not having any guidance.
Last night a few of our friends came together to watch the rugby and braai.  Later in the evening some interesting conversations evolved.  My boyfriend said something that inspired me.  He said that the only thing separating you from someone else is determination.  I totally agree with him.  If you are really determined and work really hard for what you want you will get it and your light castles will finally transform into reality.

It is better to practise a little than to talk a lot

Don’t all of us PR people just love talking!  If we are not writing we are talking.  One saying which I think perfectly relates to our profession as PR practitioners are - ‘If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit’ – And aren’t we perfectly good at it!
Even though we are professionals at talking and manipulating people we still need to know what we are talking about.  They say practise makes perfect.  Observe everything around you and listen to what other people have to say.  It is so important especially for us as entry level PR practitioners to practise a little before we talk a lot.
I am in the habit of talking before I think about what I want to say and then I only end up with my fingers burnt.  So often I regret what I have said or how I have said something.  We need to start to practise to think before we say something.  In the beginning it will not be easy, but I believe the more we practise the better we will become at it.

Do you think crying is a sign of weakness or strength?

We cry for so many different reasons.  We cry when we are sad, when we are happy, when we are stressed, when we are uncertain, when we are thankful and so I can go on.  No matter why we cry it makes us feel better afterwards.
Crying is an expression of an emotion.  Once we cry it helps us to release that emotion and feeling.  It is a good thing to let go sometime.
Most people have a perception that crying is a weakness.   Children grow up with the idea that boys do not cry. I think it is a really bad thing.  We all need to cry whether we are boys or girls, young or old.
I see crying as a sign of strength.  It is medicine in some kind of bizarre way. For some people it takes courage to cry.
I personally have a very small heart and the smallest thing can make me cry.  I cannot control it which is not so nice, but I always feel better after I have cried.  Mostly I like it to cry over movies.    Even though it is only a movie, it makes me realise what I have and reminds me of what I need to be thankful for.
What is your opinion of crying?  Do you think crying is a sign of weakness or strength?

Wedding cake-in-the-middle-of- the road.

The Royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton finally took place on Friday.  It was crazy.  Everyone talked about it and was seen everywhere – Newspapers, Twitter, Blogs, Facebook, Internet, News bulletins, Talk Shows, Magazines and so I can go on and on.   I think this wedding gave all of us our own little fairy tale.  Don’t we all still dream of a Prince saving us on his big white horse and taking us to his palace where we will live happily ever after.  It is nice to dream sometimes.  I really hope they live happily ever after!

I also attended a wedding this past weekend.  It took place on the beach in Yzerfontein.  At least the weather played along.  It was so beautiful.  The couple taking their first kiss with the sun setting in the background and the sound of waves crashing against the rocks!  I just love weddings, from dressing up to the food, the dancing and just sharing two people’s most special day with them.
A few years ago during my December holidays I helped out at the Moon and Six Pence in Muldersdrift – Johannesburg.  I helped planning the weddings and making sure everything runs smoothly during the day.  I loved it.  Weddings are so special to me.  One task I had to do was opening the door before the bride walks in.  Every single time I opened that door, looked into the eyes of the husband to be and hearing the wedding march I started crying.  That moment is just so beautiful and special to me.  Two people loving each other so much that they decide to spend the rest of their lives together and are willing to make a promise in front of God and all their families and friends.
Unfortunately a wedding is just a normal event and the changes that something goes wrong are very good!  I will especially not forget one wedding I helped out with.  The bride ordered a really expensive wedding cake worth a few thousand Rand from a very delicate cake shop in Sandton.  The day of the wedding Johannesburg had a huge Thunderstorm.  During this thunderstorm the cake was on its way to the wedding.  Then disaster stroked.  Someone drove into the car transporting the cake and the very large expensive cake was destroyed.  I must say it was very difficult keeping the bride calm when she heard her cake landed up in the middle of the road.
